My Own Rainbows

I sat at my table this morning studying my scriptures when I noticed the sunlight shining on the curtain. I’m always
excited about sunlight in the mornings because I get to see rainbows! So, I opened the curtain just a bit. You see,
when the curtains are mostly closed, I get to see the rainbows brighter and more beautiful.

Sure enough, the rainbows came in and danced on my walls. This morning they were tiny and mostly in the family
room. In the summer, they are big and mostly in the living room.

I gave the prisms that hang in my window little pushes and then the dances got wild and crazy. Oh, how I love to see
those splashes of light and color careening around in my living space creating joy and energy!

And I thought about how my rainbows are like my fantasy writing.

There are millions of people who love to see the sunlight in the mornings and a lucky few have prisms close by so the sunlight shines through and makes rainbows. And it’s possible that a few of them might even jiggle the prisms to see the rainbows moving, but in all those millions of people, none of them make rainbows dance on MY walls. I’m the only one who can do that. So, it is with my writing. I take elements that everyone can see. Sunlight shines on everybody. And focus it through my own perspective and then capture what shines on my own walls and share it with whoever reads my books.
